Partners

A number of partners have played a central role in the creation of Keystone and its first steps. These range from grassroots organizations to innovative giving marketplaces, in order to assemble proven effective practices into a complete set of accountability practices. These are:

Funding partners

In order to demonstrate a pattern-changing method such as the Keystone accountability model, it is necessary to have the financial backing of social investors with uncommon vision and fortitude. Keystone has been fortunate to have among its founding partners four social investors, two in the global South and two in the global North, who have provided the seed funding for our initial two-year "design and demonstration" phase. Our financial sponsors share a belief that we need better ways to measure and communicate social change. They locate these investments within a strategy for enabling philanthropy that also includes investments in other elements of more market-like philanthropy vehicles.

Social Change Marketplaces

Keystone believes that more and better resources can be mobilized for civil society development organisations that are more accountable. A new set of institutions dedicated to channeling philanthropy – the social change marketplaces – are the natural test bed for this belief since the essence of a healthy marketplace lies in the quality and reliability of information flowing between the parties to each exchange.

Through marketplaces, donors give directly to the organizations on the ground thereby reducing intermediary overheads. Organizations listed in social change marketplaces use Keystone to generate and report the kind of information that clearly demonstrates their effectiveness and their integrity by amplifying the voices of stakeholders most affected by their work.

Technical Partners

The methodology that underpins the Keystone approach is not only driven by field partnerships. Keystone draws liberally upon proven practices and approaches that are in the public domain in order to build its "open source" model. In that sense, Keystone stands on the shoulders of the giants of sustainable development who have, over the past four decades, provided the building blocks by which we can assemble a complete civil society accountability model.

In addition, a small number of organizations have chosen to collaborate actively to co-create and test the Keystone model. The following organizations constitute our most active technical partners.
