The Keystone Method

The creation of the Keystone method is driven by a set of four fundamentals that, we think, have the potential to provide guidance and inform the work of others working on similar issues.

Keystone works with a wide range of partners and associates across the world. All Keystone systems and products are non-proprietary - they are free for anyone to use, adapt and participate in ongoing design and development.

During 2005 and 2006 Keystone worked with partners in South Africa and the Philippines to learn and co-create a method of accountability that would help nourish development practice and outcomes. To view a set of case studies documenting Keystone's experiences and learning, read Keystone Method: In Progress.

Keystone's main areas of work are:

  • Creating a Method for organizational learning and accountability, through open and inclusive stakeholder dialogue.
  • Research and learning dialogues that critically reflects on the field processes, and leads to enhanced learning about civil society accountability, learning and reporting. This includes the creation of an international review panel.
  • Tools and support that build from networks of development practitioners in the application of Keystone models of accountability, learning and reporting.
  • Keystone is also developing a number of applications of the core methodology as they relate to the capacity building industry and philanthropy and giving.

Keystone is for organizations that take their own development seriously, while contributing to wider societal learning, social justice and development.
