With support from Omidyar Network, Keystone convened a first international meeting of online social investment marketplaces from July 9-11. The first two days of the meeting were devoted to practical exchange amongst the markets from seven countries regarding operational challenges. In sum, we met to:

1) share experiences and learning;
2) explore ways and means of developing shared systems to address common challenges; and
3) set up engagements with market enablers and organizations poised to establish giving markets.

The meeting sought to articulate a preliminary definition of the benefits of giving market interconnectivity.

On the third day, we invited a number of philanthropy brokers and other “social investment market entrepreneurs” to join with us to describe and discuss the larger ecosystem of online social investment.

Participants were GlobalGiving (USA), GIVE India, GreaterGood South Africa, DonorsChoose (USA), Modest Needs (USA), HelpArgentina, Social Stock Exchange (Brazil) and eBay Giving Works (USA). The Philippine Council for NGO Certification also attended as they are the developing world’s leading NGO management certification body, and are exploring the possibility of establishing a giving market in the Philippines. The facilitator was Barbara Kibbe of the Monitor Institute (USA).
